Chocolate Heaven

Tucked away in the basement of the Mayfair hotel, a world away from the hustle and bustle of London, lies the spa. After descending the marble steps to what soon felt like a beautiful far-eastern land. Unconditionally welcoming smiles and waterfalls put me at ease instantly as I stepped into the timeless tranquillity.

I was given a tour around the facilities  - mostly used by hotel guests, but membership or staying at the hotel is not necessary to use this amazing place. After being given a key and shown to the changing room, I was pleased to find a thick warming white robe and two gorgeously fluffy towels within my personal locker.

Once changed into your robe and swimwear, all facilities are at your disposal. Steam room, sauna and relaxation room, fitted with five warm stone couches moulded perfectly to one’s form. Herbal teas, water, dried fruit and nuts are available during your relaxation time. I was collected from here by my therapist, Nicola and led to my treatment room. A rich aroma of chocolate and soul soothing music greeted me. All the information I could need, and all the attention I could want followed in the next extraordinary 75 minutes.

A natural sea salt and poppy seed scrub to exfoliate away all those dead skin cells and cleanse top to toe with the most amazing warming sensations. The waterfall shower in the room was relaxing and warm. Once dry, I put on my second pair of paper knickers and lay back on the couch ready for round two of the pampering. The organic chocolate warm and aromatic was gently drizzled onto then massaged into my skin. Covered and carefully wrapped in plastic, a soft blanket was laid on top and I was in my very own little cocoa dream in my chocolate cocoon.

Nicola proceeded to massage my face and scalp. Flannel gloves wiped away the day’s dirt and opened the pores. Sweet orange oil was worked into my weariness.  I wandered, half asleep, back into the shower to wash the gorgeous cocoa from my body (I just wanted to eat it!). Another set of paper knickers and I was ready on the couch for the last step. Cocoa body oil all over sealed in the moisture and left my skin baby bottom soft.

The kindness and care of the Mayfair spa team was completed with a serving of sorbet in the relaxation room…. I chose blackcurrant – sweet and refreshing – to ensure I was completely and utterly chilled out.  I was.
